Bajrang Punia had reached Tokyo Olympics with an injured right knee heavily strapped. His opponents in the men’s freestyle 65kg category – counted among the toughest in wrestling – knew that this was one opening which they should exploit to get the better of their continental rival. A susceptible leg defence has often led to Bajrang’s downfall in crucial bouts. But here he was, competing with a dodgy knee.
