The U.N. said this week it is “deeply concerned” about the increase in violence and civilian casualties in Afghanistan over the past six weeks. Meanwhile, the U.S. special representative for Afghanistan, Zalmay Khalilzad, is in the region to press the Taliban and the Afghan government to begin negotiations.
